Week 2

This week we started off by finishing our different prototypes which ended up being about movement throughout the game (made by Ebba), indication of cats awakening (made by Maria) and the different boosters (made by Guilherme). The testing of these done in the labs gave us good insight and feedback on what works and what doesn't. For instance, the movement was too fast in moving left and right which made the players walk into the bells accidentally a bit too often. The implemented double jumping was appreciated, but the second jump needs to be shorter than the first. How the mouse moves and its acceleration should also be considered as well as the jump's arc.

Regarding testing of the cats awakening we are currently leaning towards having an animation that indicates when the cat is about to wake up and that the user always has the same amount of time to react to this. The intervals between awakenings will also be the same to give everyone a feeling of that they have the same chance of reaching the leaderboard, but the time that the cat is awake will vary. This was chosen as we plan to have a clock in the background since a faster time will give a higher score, and we don't want it to be too simple to be able to look at the clock and know that at every 10 seconds it wakes up, as would be the case if the time sleeping and time awake would be the same loop over and over.

After the testing we also chose to remove the lives booster and instead only have the jello that disables bells (for a limited time/one time use), yarn that distracts the cat and a static shield that you can hide behind. This makes sense as the yarn's effect is too similar to the extra life's effect.

We updated the design document to reflect these changes and created three different story boards. The story boards are about using boosters tactically, beating the high score and functioning of the booster inventory. We wrote the script for one storyboard each, and then Maria drew them digitally.

Finally, Ebba combined all of the separate prototypes into one, which we can continue to develop into our more refined game.
